Bamboo is The Boss!

Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants in the world, capable of reaching maturity within three to five years. Its rapid growth rate, often exceeding 91 centimetres in a single day, makes it a renewable resource that can be harvested without causing significant harm to the environment.

This remarkable plant thrives in diverse climates and conditions, promoting soil health and contributing to carbon sequestration, thus playing an essential role in mitigating climate change. With its strong, lightweight structure, incredible breathability and naturally anti-bacterial qualities bamboo is increasingly being utilised in various applications, from construction to clothing, and now thanks to Rusties - eco-friendly cycling gear.

The production process for producing bamboo fabrics involves considerably fewer resources than those required for conventional textiles, resulting in a notably lower carbon footprint. By choosing bamboo, consumers can actively support sustainable practices that contribute to a healthier planet, while enjoying the unparalleled softness and remarkable durability of this innovative material.

One restriction of natural fibres is their ability to stretch and recover well, resulting in garments that don’t retain their shape as effectively over time. Consequently, they can be more prone to sagging or losing their original fit after repeated wear and washing. This is why our evoSkinz fabric comprise 15% elastane, to bring that added stretch and recovery, ensuring that our baseshorts retain their technical shape and hold the chamois pad in the correct position, and adding to the already impressive breathability of bamboo.

We firmly believe that using natural products like bamboo that grow naturally without irrigation, that require minimal chemical intervention to process, and that naturally biodegrade without the need for chemicals, is the way forward for sustainable clothing in a sport that can be, and deserves to be, as environmentally sustainable as riding a bike.
